Frequently asked questions
Is this a class? Will you provide direct instruction on writing skills?
No, this is a coaching service, not a traditional writing class. Students should already have a working knowledge the writing fundamentals and the writing process. The coach will provide feedback on an essay submission, but direct instruction in writing basics is not included.
When will my student receive feedback?
Students receive comments and suggestions within seven business days of submission.
Will my student receive a grade?
Grades are not automatically provided, as the focus is on improvement rather than evaluation. However, if a parent requests a grade at the start of the session, a recommended grade can be given based on the student’s progress.
Can my student submit multiple essays?
Students submit one essay at a time (up to 2,000 words) for feedback. An exception is made is selections are much shorter. Beginning writers may choose to upload 4 paragraphs for review instead of a longer essay. The 4 paragraphs should total 1500 words or less.
How is feedback provided?
Feedback is given through Google Drive comments directly on the student’s document. The coach will highlight strengths, point out areas for improvement, and offer revision suggestions.
Does my student need Google Drive?
Yes. Google Drive is required since all assignments are submitted through shared documents.
Can I pause or extend the 15-week coaching period?
No. The coaching service is a 15-week commitment and cannot be paused, extended, or adjusted based on student progress. The expectation is that students will work at a steady pace during the program.
Does the coach check for factual accuracy in the essay content?
No. The coach evaluates writing quality but does not fact-check the content. While logical consistency and source integration may be noted, it is the student's responsibility to verify their research, data, and arguments for accuracy.
What if I'm not satisfied with the level of feedback?
Feedback is designed to be constructive and actionable, focusing on helping students improve their writing. If you have concerns about the depth of feedback, you are welcome to reach out for clarification. However, this is a coaching service, not an editing service, so comments will guide revision rather than rewrite the student's work.
Does my student need to revise the final draft after receiving feedback?
Revisions are up to the parents but are strongly encouraged. The primary focus is on helping students grow through coaching, so students should practice by updating their submissions based on the feedback. Additional rounds of feedback beyond the initial review are not guaranteed as part of the coaching service.
Does this service include revisions?
No. The Basic Writing Coach service includes one round of feedback per essay. If further revisions are needed, the essay may be submitted again as a new coaching request.
What if I decide this isn’t the right fit after we begin?
Coaching slots are reserved in advance, and refunds are not available after enrollment. Please review all expectations before signing up.
Can my student request additional feedback on the same assignment?
Each assignment submission includes one round of feedback. Additional feedback on the same assignment is not included in the coaching service unless the student resubmits it for additional coaching.
How much does it cost?
The cost for the Basic Writing Coaching program is $20. This fee includes personalized feedback on writing assignments up to 2000 words.
